Stand Still and Watch God Work!

Hebrews 11:29

29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

The crossing of the Red Sea was not just the final step in delivering the children of Israel from the bondage of Egypt, it was an illustration of God’s power in the middle of our circumstances. With the armies of Egypt behind them and the Red Sea in front of them the situation seemed hopeless and it would seem that they were right where Pharaoh wanted them. However it was God who had led them to these shores and He was about to do something amazing by delivering His people and destroying their enemies which just so happened to be one of the most powerful militaries in the world at that time.  “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:13-14

There are many different lessons we can take away from the Faith of Moses on this day, but for now I want to just focus on three of them:

1. When we see obstacles, God see’s opportunities!
The promised land was right in front of them, but there was a lot of water in the way without a boat to be seen. To make matters worse there was not chance of retreat. Have you ever been there? You have followed Christ to the shore of some impossibility and now you are questioning God’s leading in your life. It is at those times that we take the advise of Moses and simply Be still and watch God do something amazing in our lives!

2. We can focus on the problem, or focus on God!
There is no doubt that there were problems for these people, at-least on a vertical plane. The people murmured, asking Moses if he had led them there because there weren’t enough graves in Egypt! They focused on the problem that they were not strong enough to overcome. Moses said it was the Lord who would fight for them this day! Keep your eyes on Him! Much of our lives are determined by what we choose to focus on and when we choose to Focus on God and his power, the problems in front of us don’t seem quite so big anymore!

3. God will work powerfully on our behalf, but He often asks for our obedience first.
God told Moses to tell the children of Israel to keep moving forward! And Moses had to step in front of them, in the sight of all these people and lift up the rod and watch God divide the sea. It didn’t make any sense. This had never been done before. He had a choice to make. To step out in faith and watch God work, or doubt His word. Moses had seen God do many things, but this was HUGE! But regardless of all human reasoning he chose to obey God and step out! Maybe today God is asking you to keep moving forward and watch Him work!

Today, as we ReFocus our hearts and minds on Christ lets choose to see the opportunities that God has placed in front of us as moments that can grow our faith as we obey Him. Remember, it is not our reputation that is at stake. He is the one who gets all the Glory as we follow Him in faith and watch Him part the seas in front of us!
