Peace in the Middle of the Storm…

John 16:33

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

Jack Dawson is an artist that is known for his “seek and find” series of paintings. The first one being a work called “Peace in the Midst of the Storm” featuring a crashing waterfall with a storm brewing in the distance. It is easy to see where he got the “storm” part of this title, but to see the “Peace” he is speaking of you have to look a little harder. In the rocks is a small bird nestled up into a crevice, safe from the elements.

The illustration is simple: even when the storms rage around us we can find refuge in the sheltering presence of God. Jesus reminds us in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” We are not promised calm seas, sunny weather, and an easy road. But we are told that God will guard our hearts and minds with a peace that goes beyond human comprehension (Phil 4:7).

Think about all that we are in the middle of today. There is so much uncertainty in the world. Many are finding that when we look at our health, finances, or jobs to find peace we end up in the midst of a storm. But Jesus says to “be of good cheer”! Our God is still on the throne and gives us the shelter and peace that we so desperately need.

Today as we ReFocus our hearts and minds on Christ, let’s find our rest in the presence of our Savior. He is the one constant in a storm-tossed world, and we can find our peace in the truth that He has overcome the world! Sheltered Safe in the Arms of Love! – there is no other place where true peace can be found!
